how many dildos can i bring into the country?
Filed Under Immigration, ask cojito |

Hi Cojito, thanks for answering.
My wife (a beautiful woman and Cojito admirer), and I are planning an extended visit to Panama in a few months, for as long as we can make it, like it, or until they kick us out.
A little help will really be much appreciated. We are a Dutch married couple who lived in South Africa all their lives until 4 years ago. We miss the tropics. We also miss that little extra freedom that comes with a less developed country. We know what corruption is. We also know what poverty is. We don’t speak Espanol yet but we are trying to learn the basics, must say, easier said than done!
From Holland we can fly to San Jose for half the price than we could to PTY so it is a big consideration. Which do you think would be better, the Pacific or Caribbean route by bus from San Jose to Panama City? I have some expensive video equipment plus laptop and so on (all used) worth about $7000. My wife has more dildos than shoes. Do you by any chance know whether there might be any problem bringing these into either Costa Rica or Panama?
From what I understand the bus takes about 16 hours so I imagine we will arrive in Panama City around 1 am. Is it doable considering the availability of taxis, hotels, and crime at that hour?
My wife is a webcam chathost, thus the dildos and expensive cam. To make a living we need a fast connection (min 512mbps upstream) with unlimited usage. Is this easily available? Can one apply for internet without a residence permit or must we rent a flat with existing broadband? How long can we expect to wait for internet installation after applying?
We are just looking forward to a change and a better climate. As long as we have a reliable internet connection we can make a reasonable living. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
You really have an exceptional talent for writing…next Harold Robbins?
Cheers and good luck
you want help, and you dare compare me to harold robbins?! i swear, i almost threw myself off the balcony when i read that. but i’m going to pretend you meant charles bukowski, or henry miller, and answer your question anyway. after all, you were kind enough to leave a donation, and you’re married to a beautiful cojito fan with more dildos than shoes.
yes, a web cam biz in panama could net you a nice living, and if you needed, you could easily find other girls to work cheap. if you want a dependable high speed connection i recommend staying in Panama City. there are various connection speeds. i don’t have the fastest connection. it’s not bad, but it fluctuates a little when i play poker online. i think you can find a connection that’s fast enough for web cams. right now cable onda’s advertising a 512k connection for $49 a month. i think it’s less if you bundle it with cable TV.
and yes, flights into Costa Rica are cheaper. if you’re going to do this i’d suggest you take the pacific route through paso canoas. it’s safer. i know people who have been robbed at the border on the Caribbean side. i never had any problems on that route, but i’ve talked to others who have.
the panaline bus will arrive late. i got in after 3am on my last trip back from san jose. but allbrook station’s reasonably safe at that hour, buses are coming and going, and there are taxis waiting outside. if you’re concerned about a late arrival, i think tica bus leaves san jose late (about 10 pm) and gets into panama during the day. you might try them instead.
i say it’s safe. and it is. but if i was carrying $7000 worth of video equipment, i would just fly into panama city. when i travel by bus i don’t even take my laptop. i always travel light. because i know that i could get robbed, or my equipment could be damaged, and i can’t afford to lose my expensive gear.
that said, i don’t think you’ll have any problems coming through paso canoas. you’re either on a bus or in customs. the only time you leave the bus is to eat, or walk across the border. to be sure, you’ll get snuffled by drug dogs. and customs will open your bags. but that’s no big deal. if you’re confused at the border, there’s often a kid who’ll help you out. give him a buck as a tip.
i wouldn’t tell them you’re going to run a web biz. they may have sex shops, strip clubs, brothels, and massage parlors in panama, but they also have a funny hang up about porn. even though i can get porn on my cable TV. if they ask, just tell them you’re a tourist filming promotional material for the folks back home.
hope this helps. drop us a line when you hit town.
cheers,
Cojito

What about the main question: “how many dildos can I bring into the country?”
cojito-
Right-on, you sure save a lot of peoples asses. This is the only site on the net that I’ve seen that a peon can get a straight answer to questions, without the weed it out of a blog, that might get answered in 2 or 3 months. It’s nice to have a on-line friend like you, makes the transition alot easier. Thank you.
panapat - lol, sorry, that was meant to be a rhetorical question.
fastfredddie - thank you sir. i try to keep up with all the chatter. i remember how hard it was to find reliable info when i was planning on traveling to panama.
yo cojito! zeno has had an email for a couple days. get off your big fat white ass and answer it…:)
The central bus terminal in San Jose, affectionately called “coca cola,” is the most dangerous area in a most dangerous country.
If you go there with $7000 worth of camera equipment and dildos, I can almost guarantee that somebody is going to run off with your bags.
They’ll bump you from one side or spill a cold drink on your shirt, and as you react to the cold liquid running down your chest, they’ll grab your bags and run.
It’s penny-wise but pound foolish, in my opinion.
Aren’t you internet porn guys supposed to be rich, anyway??
how how high is the balcony he-he, ground level? i’ll remember to send a few prozacs with my ‘compliments’ next time! harold robbins was the best i could come up with lol!
jokes aside, muchos gracias for the extensive advice cojito - much appreciated. i fully agree with fastfreddie.
i’ll definitely mail you when we arrive, thanks.
cojito - i understand that informal clothing is frowned upon in panama, to what extent is this true in every day life? i can imagine that wearing a t-shirt, bermudas and sandals to a government building, bank or meeting with a lawyer wont be very welcome but what about supermarkets, restaurants and the local booze outlet? what would be considered inappropriate for a woman? as you have probably guessed my wife is not really the most formal of dressers so we would just like to get a general idea of what to expect.
thanks for the input raul, note taken.
rich? …jeez, we are two travelling bums who enjoy life and booze far too much to have saved much. anyway, how much can a 40 year old chathost earn given she must relinquish 60% of her earnings to the porn bosses?
my wife is a born exhibitionist who loves what she does, so do i lol! luckily we can still earn a few bucks from the internet which makes travelling possible.
we are looking forward to panama.
Hey dildorunner—I don’nt think that you will have any problems at Tocumen with your dildos. I’ve been searched a couple of times with a “bag full”. I’ve received a n embarrased grin from the inspector and sent along my way.
I’ll look for your update when u get here.
Cojito—I found a bottle of Flora de Cana in SW Florida. $31.99 for a .750 ltr. bottle. You’re right–its to die for. How much at REY ??
todbals-
i just paid $18.75 for 750 of 12 year old flor de cana at riba smith 1/2 hour ago. but i also bought 1.75L of abuelo for $11.77 and it is very good rum made in panama.
and i think the 12 yr flor’s about $16 in rey.
dildorunner - Panamanian men wear shorts and t-shirts mostly on weekends and holidays. but it’s hot down here, and i’m an informal guy.
the only time i put on long pants is when i go into government buildings. i wouldn’t worry too much. panama city is an international city. they’re tolerant, and accept that we just don’t know any better.
raul - i checked out the new tica bus station when i was in san jose. it was really nice. i felt safe inside. but the locals all warned me to stay out of the area. so, for anyone traveling by bus, both tica and panaline bus stations are located in sketchy areas. take a cab from the hotel and be careful.
marco - you’re already buying more rum? lol sounds like you started the party without me.
i’m looking over my stats program, and some poor wretch just found panama after hours by searching for the words - “Jesus reborn.” haha - i wonder how long he/she stayed after getting assaulted by a multi colored dildo?
cojito–i didn’t start without you, i’m just stocking up. the flor is actually a gift for you and alex. the abuelo is for me. tell little sister i found her some cranberry juice at riba smith. i had a drink with vieja last night and she’s on board for the party if you can get your left hand off the internet poker game and your right hand off of alex’s ass and make it happen.
It seems that nothing is really inappropriate to wear in Panama City these days. My dressing habits are totally Panamena now so I am able to spot a foreigner very quickly. Almost all the clothing is acceptable enough, making allowances for customs, even the colorful tropical print shirts, baggy cargo shorts, silly sun hats and glasses. I think one exception would be those wife beaters. Those are meant to be undergarments for men. Not worn as a shirt in public. Save those for the beach, at home watching TV or the gym. Unless you are a woman. Perfectly acceptable for them.
Nice meeting you marco. thanks for helping me with my walker. sorry I could not join you for the meal but I forgot to put my teeth in before I left home. next time…..
vieja — the only embarrassing moment for me was when your boobs fell in your soup. i think toothless is cool and i really like the little horn and headlights on your walker…:)
Hello everyone, this is my first comment here (hope not too late), I’m a panamanian citizen and almost sure that the internet connection will be a problem.
The 512k connection for $49 a month is downstream… the upstream is usually not published, and even if the sales guy told you that it’s the same it’s NOT.
Usually it’s the half or less, if you get the maximum (2MB I think) you may get a 512k upstream or similar… you need to ask this and please let them know that you want to talk with the tech staff, because the sales guy (worse if it’s a girl) doesn’t know anything about this.
If they said it’s the same, it’s not, please take this in consideration since once you sign the contract you have to pay for it… (contract only specify the downstream so you can’t claim you are not getting what you’re paying for)
Good luck!
i was just in panama for 6 weeks. i have cableonda and it worked just fine…
marco - he’s talking about the upstream speed for webcam chathost. or were you running a kinky chat line from your apartment in panama? :)
thanks p4c0, that’s very helpful information. i hope the reader (dildorunner) stumbles onto it before he comes here.
yeah, i run a kinky chat line for chicks who dig fat ugly bald guys.
lol sign me up then.
