i just read your blog for the first time and i had to write and tell you how much i thoroughly enjoyed your postings. i am moving to panama this spring and it has been very difficult to find anything written about panama where some expat is not trying to peddle something. I have not laughed this much in a long time. i do have one question, is arraijan a reasonable place for a retiree to live? (Chuck in Belize)

Spanish Language Schools In Panama
Sometimes the best advice is no advice.
Panama After Hours gets several thousand visitors a month. On average visitors linger for nine minutes. Long enough to ask questions like; “What’s there to do in Panama?” The problem with questions like these (besides that I’m writing about Panama and all you need do is read), is that I don’t know you. So I can’t advise you.
Do you want to tour brothels, or historical landmarks? Are you looking for a five star restaurant, or do you prefer to spend your days hunting for a good doctor to identify that burning sensation you feel when you urinate? read more»

English Not Spoken Here
Judy from Miami writes: “Is it true english is spoken everywhere in Panama?”

Sure, if by everywhere you mean the expat social. Let me ask you, is it true everyone in [tag]Miami[/tag] has [tag]pink flamingos[/tag] on their lawns? The easy answer to your question is no. You need Spanish Judy. Just because you can order beef burritos from Taco Bell, and like to fantasize about your shirtless Latino gardener, that doesn’t mean you’re ready for Panama. Learn some Spanish before you leave town. I suggest “papi, darme lo que quiero.” is a good place for you to start. read more»
