well, they could be returning with a very talkative parrot. but it’s more likely your friends are bringing you the industrial strength beverage enjoyed by alcoholic peasants from all over central america.

guaro, aka aguardiente, or burning water, is likely to be the force behind most central american fiestas, and more than a few wife beatings. unlike fine rum, also made from sugar cane, guaro tastes like crap straight-up. however, it’s good with a mixer. i like it with fresca over ice. read more»

My wife (a beautiful woman and Cojito admirer), and I are planning an extended visit to Panama in a few months, for as long as we can make it, like it, or until they kick us out.

A little help will really be much appreciated. We are a Dutch married couple who lived in South Africa all their lives until 4 years ago. We miss the tropics. We also miss that little extra freedom that comes with a less developed country. We know what corruption is. We also know what poverty is. We don’t speak Espanol yet but we are trying to learn the basics, must say, easier said than done!

From Holland we can fly to San Jose for half the price than we could to PTY so it is a big consideration. Which do you think would be better, the Pacific or Caribbean route by bus from San Jose to Panama City? I have some expensive video equipment plus laptop and so on (all used) worth about $7000. My wife has more dildos than shoes. Do you by any chance know whether there might be any problem bringing these into either Costa Rica or Panama? read more»
